I had the pleasure of learning about Ford Warriors in Pink at our Bloggy Boot Camp event in Las Vegas.

Of course, as a fan of the Lifetime series, Army Wives, I was already familiar with the cause, but was thrilled to learn more and see there new documentary, Bang the Drum. {Watch it below- its incredible.}
We were also fortunate enough to hear from a truly inspirational women, Melissa, who shared her battle with breast cancer. She is a true Model of Courage.
As I get older- I’m now approaching 40- I feel like I hear cancer whispered among my age group more and more. Often, its our mothers, now in their 60s and 70s who are being diagnosed. But, more and more, it’s women my age being added to the list of warriors fighting this nasty disease. About 1 in 8 U.S. women (just under 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. And don’t forget the men, it effects them too.
I’d like to tell you about Sheila. She was a friend of my mother’s who was diagnosed in 2005. Shelia was a single mom to 2 teens and a fun-loving, outgoing and joyful lady. Family came first and she did everything for those kids. When she was first diagnosed, it was a whirlwind of surgery, radiation, chemo. She stayed upbeat and positive through the entire thing. Making every football game, dance performance and parent event she could. While the physical signs for cancer and its treatment took their toll on the outside, she remained positive and upbeat- she courage and faith ever-shining.
For a time, it appeared as through Shelia had beat cancer’s butt. But, that victory was short lived. In 2008, the cancer returned with a vengeance and in 2009, Shelia’s battle ended. And, while she is no longer with us, her inspiration to live well and love well continues in her children and all of us touched by her life.
One of the things I love most about Ford Warriors in Pink is that 100% of the net proceeds goes to cancer awareness all year long. And, since they began in 18 years ago, they have dedicated more and $115 MILLION to the cause. Plus? These pants are adorable and I get to show my support for the warriors fighting cancer.
This October, Ford Warriors in Pink® has launched its first ever produced documentary, “Bang the Drum: Living Out Loud in the Face of Breast Cancer.” The film honors 11 men and women breast cancer survivors who have demonstrated strength and courage in their battle with its “Models of Courage” program. 2012 marks Ford Motor Company’s 18th year of support for the breast cancer cause. In that time, Ford has dedicated more than $115 million to the breast cancer cause.
You too can get involved in this tremendously worthy program! When you buy Ford Warriors in Pink apparel at fordcares.com, 100 percent of the net proceeds go directly to support breast cancer awareness all year long.
